New Opera Browser for Mac is 10x Faster

The new Opera browser for Mac is now more than ten times faster, according to speed comparisons between Opera 10.52 and Opera 10.10.

The new version boasts an improved user interface, Cocoa integration, multi-touch trackpad gestures and Growl support. This, combined with the unprecedented speed from the new JavaScript engine, Carakan, and the new graphic library, Vega, provides a faster and smoother browsing experience. The new Opera also features the latest in Web standards, including leading SVG support and HTML 5 video.
Main reasons to try Opera for Mac:
● Top speed - Take advantage of the world's fastest browser optimized for Mac, now more than ten times faster than the previous version of Opera for Mac.
● Mac-ified UI – Opera’s new user interface for Mac is now more responsive, with a unified toolbar and design overhaul.
● Finger navigation – Multi-touch trackpad gestures make browsing much more efficient. Pinch to zoom or use two fingers to scroll and three fingers to navigate back and forth in your browser history, all from your trackpad.
● Turbo-charged browsing – When surfing with your Mac on slow, congested networks, for example at an airport or on a train, Opera Turbo comes to the rescue, ensuring the fastest page loading no matter the crowd. Tests show that Opera Turbo provides about 65% faster browsing on Edge and around 50% faster browsing speed on 3G networks.

“To all Mac users who value fast browsing, please meet Opera,” said Lars Boilesen, CEO, Opera Software. “Opera is a consistent performer on even the most congested networks, giving people the fastest browsing experience, coupled with a powerful feature set that is finely attuned to the needs of Mac users.”

Facebook Begins Transcoding Video to MP4, Bringing iPad Support

Facebook has begun transcoding uploaded videos to MP4 bringing video playback support for the iPad via its built in player.

According to ReadWriteWeb, this feature is still begin rolled out,
We went to one user's News Feed (belonging to our own Marshall Kirkpatrick, in fact) and discovered he had uploaded two video files last night using iCamcorder. On the iPad, the earlier video played, launching as a full-screen MP4. The other, when clicked, informed us that we needed Flash in order to view it.

Earlier reports believed that Facebook had launched an HTML5 player; however, that was not the case.

Police Investigate Gizmodo iPhone Story

Police are trying to determine if Gizmodo violated California state law by buying an iPhone prototype from someone who said he found it in a bar, according to "a law enforcement official" quoted by CNET yesterday. The official also claims that Apple itself asked for the investigation, which, if true, would contradict persistent rumor that the somewhat unlikely story was just an Apple publicity stunt. An executive atGizmodo's parent company says that police have not asked them any questions yet.

Reportedly, Apple representatives contacted the Santa Clara County Police, and asked for an investigation of the events surrounding the disappearance of an iPhone prototype last month, and its subsequent appearance and teardown on
Gizmodo last week. CNET's Greg Sandoval and Declan McCullagh spoke to a police representative, who says that the investigation may be conducted by a computer crime task force inside the Santa Clara County district attorney's office. While Apple's Cupertino headquarters is in Santa Clara County, the bar where the phone was allegedly lost and found is in Redwood City, the county seat of neighboring San Mateo County. According to California law, any person who finds lost property and "appropriates such property to his own use" is guilty of theft... or, If the value of the property is above $400, grand theft, which is a felony.

The story has garnered a lot of comment since it was revealed on Monday. Gawker Media (the owners of
Gizmodo) paid $5,000 for the prototype, which sources have said is considered stolen goods by Apple. There are a number of elements about the story - such as, for example, why the finder claims he took the phone home with him rather than giving it to the manager of the bar - that have prompted questions about whether the phone was really found or stolen. Some observers looked at the holes in the story (a man walks into a bar with a priceless prototype and leaves it on a bar stool? really?) and wondered if the whole thing was an elaborate stunt by Apple to build up pre-release buzz for the next generation iPhone, but the police investigation suggests that they weren't involved. Gawker's chief operating officer says police haven't been in contact with him about the phone.

The Santa Clara County computer crime task force, called the "
Rapid Enforcement Allied Computer Team" (REACT) was established in 1997 and pools the tech talents of a number of local jurisdictions. What's considered "Silicon Valley" lies mostly within the borders of Santa Clara County: the Santa Clara Valley -once the largest fruit producing and packing area on Earth - and the city of San Jose, and so the police have had to deal with a lot of high-profile intellectual property issues as well as thefts. Apple involved REACT in an investigation of one of its employees who sold over $100,000 worth of computers on eBay. REACT has more tech-savvy investigators than many local law enforcement agencies, commonly investigaring cybercrimes like denial-of-service attacks of online businesses in Silicon Valley.

iPad is the one?

When iPad introduced to the world there were different views about its features, some as always was excited about its unique technology and some said its like a stone! It doesnt have any usb input, i doest have a CD/DVD rom and and it doesnt have the mac os, but the truth is none! Apple iPad is the revolutionary device but it has a big problem with the security! I think they wont put any usb input or any DVD rom on in in the future because it dangers the apple's law that every data transfer should be under the itunes supervision. But it can do many things that no other device can. Its big multitouch screan, its unique designe and outstanding security is why i called it invention of the first decade!

steve jobs health problem?!

In mid-2004, Jobs announced to his employees that he had been diagnosed with a cancerous tumor in his pancreas.[70] The prognosis for pancreatic cancer is usually very grim; Jobs, however, stated that he had a rare, far less aggressive type known as islet cell neuroendocrine tumor.[70] After initially resisting the idea of conventional medical intervention and embarking on a special diet to thwart the disease, Jobs underwent a pancreaticoduodenectomy (or "Whipple procedure") in July 2004 that appeared to successfully remove the tumor.[71][72] Jobs apparently did not require nor receive chemotherapy or radiation therapy.[70][73] During Jobs' absence, Timothy D. Cook, head of worldwide sales and operations at Apple, ran the company.[70]
In early August 2006, Jobs delivered the keynote for Apple's annual Worldwide Developers Conference. His "thin, almost gaunt" appearance and unusually "listless" delivery,[74][75] together with his choice to delegate significant portions of his keynote to other presenters, inspired a flurry of media and internet speculation about his health.[76] In contrast, according to an Ars Technica journal report, WWDC attendees who saw Jobs in person said he "looked fine";[77] following the keynote, an Apple spokesperson said that "Steve's health is robust."[78]
Two years later, similar concerns followed Jobs' 2008 WWDC keynote address;[79] Apple officials stated Jobs was victim to a "common bug" and that he was taking antibiotics,[80] while others surmised his cachectic appearance was due to the Whipple procedure.[81] During a July conference call discussing Apple earnings, participants responded to repeated questions about Steve Jobs' health by insisting that it was a "private matter." Others, however, opined that shareholders had a right to know more, given Jobs' hands-on approach to running his company.[82] The New York Times published an article based on an off-the-record phone conversation with Jobs, noting that "while his health issues have amounted to a good deal more than 'a common bug,' they weren’t life-threatening and he doesn’t have a recurrence of cancer."[83]
On August 28, 2008, Bloomberg mistakenly published a 2500-word obituary of Jobs in its corporate news service, containing blank spaces for his age and cause of death. (News carriers customarily stockpile up-to-date obituaries to facilitate news delivery in the event of a well-known figure's untimely death.) Although the error was promptly rectified, many news carriers and blogs reported on it,[84][85][86] intensifying rumors concerning Jobs' health.[87] Jobs responded at Apple's September 2008 Let's Rock keynote by quoting Mark Twain: "Reports of my death are greatly exaggerated";[88] at a subsequent media event, Jobs concluded his presentation with a slide reading "110 / 70", referring to his blood pressure, stating he would not address further questions about his health.[89]
On December 16, 2008, Apple announced that marketing vice-president Phil Schiller would deliver the company's final keynote address at the Macworld Conference and Expo 2009, again reviving questions about Jobs' health.[90][91][92] In a statement given on January 5, 2009 on Apple.com,[93] Jobs said that he had been suffering from a "hormone imbalance" for several months.[94] On January 14, 2009, in an internal Apple memo, Jobs wrote that in the previous week he had "learned that my health-related issues are more complex than I originally thought" and announced a six-month leave of absence until the end of June 2009 to allow him to better focus on his health. Tim Cook, who had previously acted as CEO in Jobs' 2004 absence, became acting CEO of Apple,[19] with Jobs still involved with "major strategic decisions."[19]
In April 2009, Jobs underwent a liver transplant at Methodist University Hospital Transplant Institute in Memphis, Tennessee.[95][96] Jobs' prognosis was "excellent".[96] Jobs's private jet enabled him to successfully get on the waiting list for an organ in Region 11 of the United Network for Organ Sharing while also getting on the waiting list where he resided in Region 5.[97]

Steve Jobs: 'Folks Who Want Porn Can Buy An Android Phone'

Steve Jobs has responded to a customer concerned about Apple's censorship by stating that 'folks who want porn can buy an Android phone'.

-----
Steve,
I was converted to Apple products with the announcement of the iPhone 3G. (My friends have been trying to convince me for years.) Since then I’ve purchased 4 iPhones, 2 computers, several routers, and miscellaneous other items. Unfortunately, I’m really starting to have a philosophical issue with your company. It appears that more and more Apple is determining for it’s consumers what content they should be able to receive. For instance, the blocking of Mark Fiore’s comic app (due to being political satire) or blocking of what Apple considers to be porn.

I’m all for keeping porn out of kids hands. Heck – I’m all for ensuring that I don’t have to see it unless I want to. But… that’s what parental controls are for. Put these types of apps into categories and allow them to be blocked by their parents should they want to.

Apple’s role isn’t moral police – Apple’s role is to design and produce really cool gadgets that do what the consumer wants them to do.

Thanks for listening

-Matthew

Fiore’s app will be in the store shortly. That was a mistake. However, we do believe we have a moral responsibility to keep porn off the iPhone. Folks who want porn can buy and Android phone.

maybe there is a long road till jailbreak!

Geohot:

Also, I think a lot of you expecting a release soon are going to be disappointed. I have so much to finish before I work on the jailbreak.

WARNING: Thunderst0rm and TurboSn0w2 Jailbreaks Are Fake!

TurboSn0w2 and the new Thunderst0rm jailbreaks for iPhone OS 3.1.3 are FAKE; DO NOT INSTALL.

BigBoss recently posted the following warning:

Thunderst0rm is “supposed” to be an untethered jailbreak for 3.1.3. It was released today and is available for download. Thunderst0rm is fake. Do not download or run it. We aren’t sure what all it does, but it does not jailbreak your device. Furthermore, it may install some spyware or something. It should be avoided. Rumors say it deletes several files from iTunes meaning you would possibly have to reinstall iTunes after running it.

Another one called TurboSn0w2 is also fake.
